It is my belief that treatment offers clients the powerful opportunity to learn the many modalities and supports that they can incorporate into their daily life to support their recovery. I believe that clients benefit most from a client-centered approach that focuses on their specific needs. My theoretical approach is integrative and includes foundations in cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness practices.
Areas I often focus on in sessions with my clients include identifying triggers to substance use, coping skills to use when a trigger presents itself, as well as sober activities in their daily life that support the development of a positive sense of self. Often, clients benefit from building awareness of unhelpful thinking patterns that have developed and finding patterns that better support their health and wellbeing.
I completed my bachelor’s degree in Corrections and Sociology from Mankato State University. Upon graduation, I worked in a detoxification program for about a year and realized I wanted to return to school to become a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. I completed my Master of Science degree in Community Health and completed the Alcohol and Drug Studies degree at Minnesota State University-Mankato. I have a calling for this field and am passionate about using my background in corrections and community health education to support my clients.
I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and State Certified Gambling Treatment Provider. At Club Recovery I serve as the primary group counselor for the Day Intensive Outpatient Treatment program.
