My approach to therapy is empirically driven, collaborative, and intersectional, founded on pillars of empathy, authenticity, and warmth. As a therapist, I take an integrative approach that leverages my specialized training in evidence-based therapies and tailors these approaches to the individual goals of each client. When working with clients, I consider their unique identity factors, sociocultural context, values, and lived experiences. I believe that each client is the expert in their own experience.
At Club Recovery, I provide individual therapy to clients navigating substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges (e.g., anxiety, depression, trauma, grief). In my work with clients experiencing addiction, I support them in not only changing their behaviors but helping them better understand the function of these behaviors and find deeper healing. I find great meaning in working with individuals who are ready to face inner pain that they may have felt is too overwhelming to face alone. My passion for working with individuals navigating co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges began a decade ago while working at a dual-diagnosis residential treatment center for adolescents.
Within therapy, I aim to meet clients where they are, developing an understanding of their strengths, struggles, and goals. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and seek to develop trust with clients by creating an affirming and validating space that supports their healing. I strive to help clients deepen their understanding of themselves, build more self-compassion, strengthen their sense of connectedness (to themselves and others), and develop their sense of self-efficacy.
I completed my PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and my pre-doctoral internship at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. My interest in mental health care is driven by social-justice, and I have a particular interest in working with individuals who hold marginalized and minoritized identities and who are part of communities that have historically lacked access to mental health services, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC.
