Troy Mund, LADC
Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor
Everyone has their own unique challenges relating to their addiction. The start to lasting recovery includes discovering what needs were filled by substance use and how to manage these needs differently. I believe treatment works best with a client-centered approach. I utilize mindfulness, motivational interviewing, SMART Recovery, and cognitive behavioral therapy to support my clients in changing unhelpful thinking patterns and building their internal motivation for change.
I have experience working in the full continuum of care, from residential treatment to intensive outpatient co-occurring treatment programs. Through these experiences, I developed an understanding of the different levels of care available to clients that can aid them in maintaining sobriety, and the common struggles many clients endure to overcome addiction.
While working in this field, it became clear that one of the most common hurdles for achieving sobriety for many clients can be a cooccurring mental health disorder, such as a mood disorder, anxiety disorder, or posttraumatic stress disorder. Often, an essential part of the puzzle for client’s establishing long-term sobriety is developing an understanding of and effectively coping with co-occurring mental health symptoms. To support this work with my clients, I am in the process of earning my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Within my role at Club Recovery, I provide individual therapy to clients experiencing substance use disorders as well as a wide range of concurrent symptoms and experiences such as, mood symptoms, self-esteem and negative thinking concerns, relationship challenges, internalized shame, grief/loss, anxiety symptoms, and/or past trauma.
Along with providing individual counseling, I facilitate the Relapse Prevention Group at Club Recovery. This group is designed to focus on individuals who have prior treatment experience and want to build their relapse preventions skills, as well as their sober support networks. I am also the primary group counselor for the Continuing Care Group. This group offers individuals who are looking for a supportive step-down treatment program after completing an intensive outpatient or outpatient treatment program for substance use.
Troy serves as an individual mental health therapist and as the group counselor for the Relapse Prevention group and the Continuing Care group.
