The most vibrant moments in life come from those often all too rare encounters where we feel truly engaged and connected with our loved ones and the world around us, where amidst the busy days, routine, or fatigue, life seems to stop for a moment, and we feel undoubtedly alive.
I believe that we all strive towards a life such as this, navigating the world with a deep sense of purpose, meaning, authenticity, and connection. However, during the formative years of our lives, many of us are confronted with social pressures, harsh criticism or judgment, painful rejection, disappointments, or terrible life events that teach us to disregard this drive in the interest of keeping ourselves safe or avoiding future emotional pain. This sense of disconnection, when we feel forgotten by, or estranged from the world around us, as well as feeling unable to cope with overwhelming thoughts, feelings, or memories, often serves as a catalyst for substance use and addiction.
Recovery provides the opportunity not only to break out of unhealthy patterns of coping with substances and other addictions but also begin living life and experiencing the world in ways you may have never been given the chance. Through a process of honest and authentic discussion together, my hope is that we use therapy as a break from the world around us to examine life holistically and cultivate a sense of identity, meaning, coping, and purpose that feels important to you on your path of recovery.
I have specialized training in providing individual therapy for adults struggling with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders as well as clinical experience treating a range of mental health concerns including anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma symptoms. I have a strong interest in working with adults navigating relationship concerns as well as major life transitions such as marriage, educational and career changes, and recovery from addiction. Other concerns I often work with include burnout, adjusting to illness or disability, and tobacco cessation. At Club Recovery, I provide individual mental health therapy and conduct chemical health assessments to connect clients with treatment related services.
My practice of therapy draws heavily from current research in the field and is grounded in cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and existential theory. Though my passion lies in my direct work with clients as a therapist, I have also served in a variety of roles providing alcohol and drug counseling, engaging in mental health advocacy, speaking at professional events, and authoring clinical literature. These experiences have provided me with a deep appreciation for the true honor it is to walk alongside another on their journey of change and self-discovery.
