Craig Johnson Leads Compulsive Gambling Treatment Program at Club Recovery LLC

March 2017 – Craig Johnson, LADC, LPCC is taking over the gambling addiction treatment program at Club Recovery, also known as the Gambling Clinic of Minnesota.  For over a decade Club Recovery has operated one of the largest and leading rehab and recovery centers for gambling addiction in the State of Minnesota, under the direction of Mary Everson, who recently announced her retirement.  Craig, an experienced and much respected addiction counselor at Club Recovery and previously with other treatment programs in the area, has stepped in to continue the highest level of quality care and education for clients and their families struggling with compulsive gambling disorder.

Craig’s perspective on treatment has been shaped by both his undergraduate and graduate education focusing on addiction and psychology and his own journey in recovery.  He completed the Addiction Studies Program at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, and obtained a Master’s Degree from St. Mary’s University in Counseling and Psychology. From these experiences, as well as many training opportunities, he has developed a rich integrated approach to the treatment of problem gambling, that considers first the foundational needs and struggles that human beings face in recovering from this devastating compulsion.

The Gambling Clinic of Minnesota provides clients an opportunity to gain understanding of the disease of addiction, to develop a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan centered on specific skills needed to successfully recover, and to learn new ways of thinking and coping that lead to a more productive, meaningful life, free from the pain of destructive risk-taking.  Clients are empowered to take responsibility for their own lives by learning how to identify self-defeating behaviors, shift ineffective patterns of thinking, and make sense of powerful, contradictory feelings. The gambling treatment program at Club Recovery is recognized in good standing with the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services, which funds treatment for clients who seek to gain control over their gambling addiction.  Therapy is provided in intensive outpatient group care and in individual and family sessions with a counselor.
