Craig Johnson Leads Compulsive Gambling Treatment Program at Club Recovery LLC

Craig Johnson, LADC, LPCC (licensure candidate) is taking over leadership of the gambling addiction treatment program at Club Recovery, also known as the Gambling Clinic of Minnesota.  For over a decade, Club Recovery has operated one of the largest rehab and recovery centers for gambling addiction in the State of Minnesota under the direction of Mary Everson, who recently announced her retirement.  Craig, an experienced and much respected addiction counselor at Club Recovery and previously with other top treatment programs in the area, has stepped in to continue the highest level of quality care and education for clients and their families struggling with compulsive gambling disorder.

Craig’s perspective on treatment has been shaped by both his undergraduate and graduate education focusing on addiction and psychology as well as his own journey in recovery. He completed the Addiction Studies Program at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, and obtained a Master’s Degree from St. Mary’s University in Counseling and Psychology. From these experiences, as well as many training opportunities, Craig developed a rich, integrated approach to the treatment of problem gambling that addresses the foundational needs and struggles individuals face in recovering from this devastating addiction.

The Gambling Clinic of Minnesota provides clients an opportunity to learn about the disease of addiction.  Participants undertake a comprehensive treatment plan centered on specific skills they need to successfully recover and learn new ways of thinking and coping that allow them to live a more productive, meaningful life.  Clients are empowered to take responsibility for their own lives by learning how to identify self-defeating behaviors, shift ineffective patterns of thinking, and make sense of difficult feelings and emotional responses.

The gambling treatment program at Club Recovery is recognized by the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services, which funds treatment for clients who seek to heal from their gambling addiction.  Treatment is provided through intensive outpatient group therapy as well as individual and family sessions.
