Mary Everson, Club Recovery Founder and Clinical Director Retires

February, 2017 – Mary Everson dedicated her professional career to educating, counselling and serving her neighbors in need.  Following extensive training in counselling and social work, Mary opened the doors of Club Recovery, LLC twenty years ago.  The Edina-based, family owned treatment, rehabilitation and recovery center, under her direction and fulfilling her vision, has since helped thousands of Minnesotans gain control over alcohol, drug and gambling addictions.

To clients and clinicians who had the privilege of working with her, Mary represents the epitome of dedication and devotion to others.  Mary was recognized and beloved by her clients for many years for selflessly responding to the urgent needs of people burdened by chemical dependencies or acutely suffering due to compulsive gambling.  She made herself available to care for others days, evenings and weekends, regularly setting aside her personal plans to serve others whenever immediate need arose. That spirit still motivates client responsiveness among the counselors and staff at Club Recovery.  Mary’s impact on the community of addiction counselors in Minnesota will extend her legacy since she trained, influenced and inspired many of the professionals in the field today.

Mary earned her first undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in the field of Social Work.  While raising a family, she and her husband Marshall owned and operated a number of educational facilities, primarily a chain of Montessori schools in the Twin Cities and surrounding communities. Later in her career she returned to her passion for social work earning a Masters in Social Work.  However, the crowning achievement of her long record of accomplishment was conceiving and creating Club Recovery in 1998, a mental and behavioral health facility dedicated to applying breakthrough understandings and innovative techniques from the emerging discipline of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to individual and family counselling.

As Club Recovery continues to grow and develop a wider range of services, it remains true to the values Mary instilled of devoted service, understanding, compassion, flexibility, education and support for our clients seeking relief.  Our treatment programs are diversifying to address a broader range of needs, including providing therapy for co-occuring addiction and mental health disorders. However, across all of Club Recovery’s services Mary’s spirit will continue to inspire our philosophy of professional and personal attention to our clients.
